We were delighted to have been selected as a finalist for the GenAI Zürich Awards, which took place on April 1st. This acknowledgment highlighted our efforts at Spirecut to explore AI’s potential in advancing ultrasound-guided, minimally invasive surgery.
At the event, we showcased our SoNIT project (Sonography Nerve Instrument Tracking)—a research and development initiative that integrates AI-driven image analysis with real-time sonography to support safer, more precise procedures for conditions such as trigger finger and carpal tunnel syndrome. We developed this solution in close collaboration with clinicians, engineers, and academic partners, including the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), HES-SO Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale, and Insel Gruppe (InselSpital). The project was supported by Innosuisse.
Although we did not secure the top prize in our category, we are grateful for the opportunity the GenAI Zürich Awards provided. We were inspired by Syngenta’s impressive win of the Impact Award for their AgriTech GenAI project—an outstanding achievement—and by CGC Genomics for winning the Community Award, furthering the application of genAI for precision cancer care.
We remain committed to refining our AI-Guided Ultrasound approach for hand surgery, staying true to Spirecut’s mission of delivering innovative yet practical tools that enhance clinical outcomes while remaining accessible in day-to-day practice.
Thank you once again to the GenAI Awards jury for recognizing our vision, to all other finalists for their inspiring work, and to our community for believing in safer, more accessible ultrasound-guided surgeries. We look forward to continuing this journey and sharing further progress in the future.
